Sculptor Patrick Pierce and movement artist Claire Elizabeth Barratt collaborate to create a two-part project at 119 Gallery, Life is Art is Life is--a gallery installation and performance series which they will create as summer gallery artists in residence. The installation will include metal and wood sculptures, sound, video, written word, and objects. A series of performances will be scheduled during the exhibit and Lowell Open Studios that will integrate dance, music, poetry, and sculpture.

“Massachusetts Quilts: Our Common Wealth”

Dale Rogers' "The Big Dog Show"

The 20 eight-foot steel dog sculptures traveling in “The Big Dog Show” will end their six city run in Lowell this September. Sculptures will be on view in Jack Kerouac Park, on Thorndike Street, and on The UMass Lowell South Campus. The sculptor, Dale Rogers, will be available to speak to interested groups about his work and the distinct value of public art.

The Mutt Strut!

A day of canine-friendly art celebrations begins at the Lowell Dog Park on First St near the Hunts Falls Rotary. At 10:15 we will walk with all the dogs over to Kerouac Park (1/2 mile) to view “The Big Dog Show” exhibit and have a dog celebration including contests such as waggiest tail, youth art displays, pet supply vendors and a chance to meet other dog and art lovers in the area. Please make sure that your canine friends are up to date on their vaccines and must be on leash at all times.

Lowell Open Studios and Arts Festival

Visit the studios of over 130 working artists in Downtown Lowell locations including the Brush Gallery, ALL Arts Gallery, Ayer Lofts Gallery, 119 Gallery, X/O Studio, and Western Avenue Studios. A ticketed preview party will be held Friday, September 25th at the Whistler Museum of Art before the studios open and performances begin noon-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
