Exhibit Description

From June 7, 2007-September 16, 2007, Lowell National Historical Park and its partners will present an exhibition of Jack Kerouac's original scroll manuscript of On the Road at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum!

KEY EVENTS FOR ON THE ROAD IN LOWELL 2007:

  • March 10, 2007: Jack Kerouac's birthday celebration--self-guided tours, cemetery walk and evening event
  • June 2: UMass Lowell presents Jack Kerouac Honorary Doctorate of Letters
  • June 15: Exhibition Opening, evening reception
  • June 16: Speaker Series #1--On the Road, a major work in American Literature
  • June 23: Renovation Journal poetry reading and teen poetry slam at the Revolving Museum
  • July 7: Lowell Celebrates Kerouac! 20th Anniversary Weekend Celebration
  • July 14: Hudson antique car show & Wiffle Ball Tournament in Kerouac Park
  • July 28: Exhibit open & Franco American food booth during Lowell Folk Festival
  • August 4: Speaker Series #2--The Importance of Place in works by Jack Kerouac
  • August 5-11: On the Road Quilt Exhibition at Whistler House Museum of Art
  • August 25: Kerouac Bus Tour around Lowell
  • September 5: 50th Anniversary Celebration of the publication of On the Road--at the Kerouac Commemorative
  • September 8: Speakers Series #3--Life, Literature and Influence in Jack Kerouac's writing
